Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 July 2026

What we collect

  • Account details: name, email, password (stored as a bcrypt hash, never in plain text)
  • Phone number, for OTP verification
  • Google profile info (name, email, photo), if you sign in with Google
  • Profile photos you upload
  • Lifestyle and preference answers you give during onboarding (used for compatibility matching)
  • City, neighbourhood, and other location details you add to your profile
  • Messages you send to other users, and any room listing you post
  • Basic usage and device information (for security, rate limiting, and debugging)

What we don't do

We don't sell your personal data. We don't show your email address or phone number to other users — other users only ever see a ✓ verification badge, never the underlying contact detail.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run NestMate, and share only what each one needs to do its job: MongoDB Atlas (database hosting), Cloudinary (photo storage), Resend (transactional email), MSG91 (SMS delivery for phone OTP), Google (sign-in, if you use it), and Render / Vercel (application hosting). We don't share your data with advertisers or data brokers.

Why we collect it

To run the compatibility engine that matches you with roommates, to verify you're a real person, to let you message people you've mutually connected with, and to keep the platform safe (reviewing reports, enforcing our Community Guidelines).

Cookies

We use cookies only to keep you signed in. We don't currently use third-party advertising or analytics cookies.

Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, you have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data. You can edit most of your profile directly, and delete your account and associated data at any time from Settings. For anything Settings doesn't cover — including a full data-access request — email support@nestmate.in.
